I visited the Birthplace of Country Music in Bristol TN/VA this past weekend and was very impressed. They have told the story of country music using a variety of media; video, audio, pictures and instruments from various entertainers such as the Earl Scruggs Banjo in the picture above. There are several “hands on” exhibits and educational material about the area, including the picture of a historical marker commemorating the settlement of the area by General Evan Shelby, one of my son’s ancestors. http://www.birthplaceofcountrymusic.org/
We coupled our visit with a Saturday night session at The Carter Family Fold, forty minutes away for an evening of Bluegrass and Flatfoot dance.
I highly suggest a visit not just to country music fans but music fans of all genres.
